R2 ImageChecker CAD Algorithm
Over the last 15 years, Hologic scientists have refined the R2™ ImageChecker® algorithm. Trained on thousands of biopsy proven cancers, the algorithm marks regions-of-interest that have well understood features of calcifications or masses.

The ImageChecker algorithm looks for characteristics commonly associated with cancer – specifically, calcifications and masses (including architectural distortions). The algorithm ranks its findings by prominence of features, places marks
on those regions above a fixed threshold (operating point) and then sends the results to the review workstation.

ImageChecker CAD identifies regions-of-interest on mammography images and brings them to the attention of the radiologist in order to decrease false negative readings

ImageChecker CAD was the first FDA approved mammography computer-aided detection system and has maintained a market leading position by consistently delivering the best detection performance available. Being a pioneer in this technology has allowed us to leverage a formidable and growing database of clinical cases to effectively identify masses, architectural distortions, and microcalcifications in a diverse screening population. In fact, prospective studies have shown that ImageChecker CAD significantly improves detection performance without a significant increase in workup rates.
